Minding Your P's & Q's: 12 Lead EKG Interpretation

Time-frame: All day workshop

Program Summary:Now more than ever, nurses need an armamentarium of knowledge to handle complex medicare care. Often, when a patient deteriorates one of the first test results available to a nurse is a 12 lead EKG. Attend this workshop, and walk away with confidence that the next time you encounter a 12 lead EKG, you will be able to rapidly analyze it accuracy and finesse!

Objectives: Upon completion of this presentation, each participant will be able to:
Describe the configurations of the electrocardiogram for each of the twelve leads and relate the findings to pathological events
Utilize a systematic approach for interpreting axis deviation, if present
Determine chamber enlargement for atrial abnormalities and ventricular hypertrophies
Evaluate right and left bundle branch blocks and differentiate between complete and incomplete intraventricular conduction abnormalities
Recognize the distinction among acute coronary syndromes and relate patterns of myocardial infarction to the lateral, inferior, or anterior walls of the heart

Long QT Syndrome: More Common Than You Think!

Participants in this program will learn how to rapidly assess a patient with chest pain by using the PQRST method, as well as how to interpret a 12 Lead EKG with accuracy and finesse! Attend this session and learn how to rapidly assess and manage patients who have sudden onset of chest pain.

Discuss the various origins of chest pain
Differentiate among Acute Coronary Syndromes and list initial therapies in the clinical setting
Evaluate a 12 Lead EKG for signs of acute MI

AHA Heartsaver CPR This CPR course entails 1 & 2 man adult CPR (adult CPR is a victim over the age of 8 years old). In addition, the heimlich maneuver (for any victim over 1 years old), as well as demonstration of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for victims of cardiac arrest. Each student must purchase a Heartsaver CPR book prior to class. You may order a book(s) by calling Channing Bete Company (1-800-611-6083).

Fee: $25.00 per person (plus the cost of your book)


*Adult Heartsaver AED 3 - 4 hour course

This CPR course entails 1 & 2 man adult CPR (adult CPR is a victim over the age of 8 years old). In addition, the heimlich maneuver (for any victim over 1 years old), as well as demonstration and practice and proficiency of skill demonstration of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for victims of cardiac arrest. Each student must purchase a Heartsaver CPR book prior to class. You may order a book(s) by calling Channing Bete Company (1-800-611-6083).

Fee: $35.00 per person (plus the cost of your book)

 

 *This course can entail Adult, Child & infant scenarios as well ($40.00) -- add 1 hour to class time.

 

Healthcare Provider CPR (American Red Cross)

This CPR course entails 1 & 2 man adult, child, & infant CPR. Demonstration of the AED for both the adult and pediatric victims. Bag-valve-mask device, face mask demonstrations. The heimlich maneuver for the conscious and unconscious adult, child, and infant. Each student must purchase a Healthcare Provider CPR book prior to class. You may order a book(s) by calling Channing Bete Company (1-800-611-6083).

Fee: $35.00 per person (plus the cost of your book).

 

Handling Office Emergencies This component is a must for every office. Information includes managing patients who become unconscious, have anaphylactic reactions, wheezing/bronchospasms, chest pain, seizures, and hypoglycemia. You will be given suggestions for your emergency box, including use of oral airways and other airway adjuncts. In addition, a one page Quick Guide for Emergency Drugs (which includes the drug, indication, dosage, and precautions) will be handed out.

Attend this 2 hour presentation, and you and your staff will be equipped and ready for the most common emergencies encountered in the dental office.

First Aid Course This is a 4 hour program for first aid, or an 8 hour program for first aid & CPR. This is an American Heart Association Course. Fees: First Aid only $30.00 (plus the price of your book, which must be purchased in advance).
